HELP!

When things come easily to you it is sometimes hard to understand why people cannot understand the concept.  You must break down the problem into smaller parts so that these people can more easily understand.

Such as:

Question:  If I have 10 ice cubes and 11 apples, how many pancakes will fit on the roof?

Answer:  Purple because aliens don't wear hats.

Why do people always complain that they don't understand math and cannot solve application problems?  How often do you hear people say that they don't understand reading or that they cannot follow directions for a scientific experiment?  A positive attitude is the main ingredient to success.  I really wish that society would have a more positive attitude towards mathematical success.  Lets get our mathematical groove on and work together to make a difference.

Tutorials

We worked so hard to finish our tutorials.  I did all of the tutorials along with the students and worked through them in order to be able to better help the students.  There were only a few that I had not done so it wasn't a major task.  It was so nice to be in the seat of the student again.  All of the tutorials worked well except for the preloader.  We had major issues getting the percent to 100, to get the statusBar to complete, and to get it to progress to the next frame.  It took a little time to figure out the logistics but we finally succeeded.  The students didn't have any problems with any other tutorials or coding.  We are all working on our games by perfecting our graphics and completing our first levels. Stay tuned.....

17 Days to Go.....

The WesTest is almost here and the year is almost gone.  The student's last year is May 31st and we do not have many more days until summer.  Globaloria class has only 14 days to finish games and complete all assignments.  We are looking forward to entering the games into the STEMS competition and showing our games to the parents, guardians, teachers, and administration.  Time goes by so quickly when you are having fun.....

Work Work Work

We are working so hard to complete all of the tutorials, uploading our .swf and .fla files, our blogging assignments, and our final games.  The students are coming up with some creative ways to incorporate the tutorials into their games.  I am impressed with the graphics and coding that they are creating.  I cannot wait until the games are finished.  Hopefully we will have a finalist in the STEMS competition.  If not, they are all winners in my eyes because of their hard work and dedication to the program.

You know my momma always said that the older you get the quicker the time passes. I had no idea that it would be this extreme. Where have all the years gone? It is hard to believe that my baby boy will be 18 and graduating from high school. It seems like yesterday that I was holding a 10-pound baby in my arms while I was studying for college exams. I have been preparing for my empty nest all year long only to get a surprising positive shock that both kids will be staying home this coming year and attending New River Community and Technical College. I am looking forward to the summer and the upcoming year :)

Will We Get Our Games Completed?

It is very hard to stay focused and also hard to keep my students focused. We are back to school after a very short break. Some students are on vacations with their families because the next 3 days were originally scheduled for Spring Break. Attendance issues are going to be a hindrance in completing our games. The students are working hard and hopefully things will start progressing a little faster. I have been completing all of the tutorials along with them so I can be more helpful in the new tutorials. Last year we didn't get to complete all of the tutorials because our deficiency of CS5. I am so excited to have this luxury. The students have such great ideas and I hope they have time to make them a reality. Stay tuned for further updates...

Easter

Easter was very different this year. Instead of our normal Easter dinner, we had a cookout with hamburgers, macaroni salad, potato salad, baked beans, brownies, lemon coconut cupcakes, and Jello cake. I have come to the conclusion that the food doesn't matter, it is all about the company. I absolutely love my family and appreciate the fellowship and fun that I have with them.
