Operation Demos

Where has this year gone?  The days are flying by and we have only had 2 snow days.  Can you believe it?  We haven't lost instructional days but it still feels like we haven't had enough days for Globaloria.  Demos have been completed and videoed.  Please check them out for some previews of our final games.

Check out the following:

We are now working on tutorials to help in the development of our final games. I cannot wait to see what interactive features we are going to add in our final games.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Don't you wish when life is bad
and things just don't compute,
That all we really had to do
was stop and hit reboot?

Things would all turn out OK,
life could be so sweet
If we had those special keys
Ctrl, Alt, and Delete

May your hearts be filled with the love that each one of you deserves.....

We are working on solving formula-based problems using the 4 step process.

1. State the formula.
2.  Substitute.
3.  Solve.
4.  Label.

The slide shows will consist of 7 slides including:

Scene 1 First Name, Formula Name, and Formula.
Scene 2 Application Problem.
Scene 3 Directions on how to solve your formula problem.
Scene 4 Solve your problem.
Scene 5 How do you use the formula in everyday life.
Scene 6 Summary.
Scene 7 Credits.

Each student chose a geometric formula of their choice.  They researched the formula, created an application problem using the formula, solved and explained the process of solving the problem, described how the problem is used in everyday life, and cited the sources that helped them in the delivery of their slide show. Numerous cross-curricular CSOs have been incorporated in this project.  The students are looking forward to presenting their games (slide shows) and giving their explanations on how to solve formula-based problems.  The next step will be creating a mini game involving 3 other math concepts.  Stay tuned.....

We are finally caught up with our CSOs are ready to move on with our Globaloria games. The plan is to make a slide show with formulas and one mini game incorporating a math concept from a list of choices. The kids are working well and they are looking forward to reinforcing our CSOs.

Demos Here We Come

We are well on our way to developing educational interactive social issue games incorporating math concepts. We have gone through the tutorials, developed flash files, and blogged about our process. The students have learned to share their knowledge and become the teacher if needed. Game ideas are progressing and ideas are being finalized. It is about that time when the students will start working on their files whenever they have a free moment. They will begin to come in during lunch every day and they will be begging for me to stay after school. The perfection phase will soon be here. I cannot wait until these guys get to show you their demos and ever better their final games.

In My Spare Time

For the past 20 years I have enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, candies, and cookies. The last few months I have been fixated on developing new and innovative flavors of cupcakes. The most satisfying part of baking the cupcakes is the joy that it brings my taste testers. I post pictures on my facebook page and people do not hesitate for volunteer for the job. Check it out....
